Chapter 23: What's your name again?
You are about to read the first excerpt from a chapter in my book. Are you ready? :)
Hi! You’re about to read an excerpt from a chapter in my book. Please note that this is an unreleased chapter and part of a manuscript, which is still a draft and a work in progress. Things can change. For context on the book, please read this first.
As this is an unfinished draft, I ask that you do not share this with others. And if this sparked some kind of emotion in you, please let me know in the comments or by replying directly to me. Happy reading!
xo,
Laura
As a straight girl growing up in America, you prepare your entire life to change your name.
With each serious crush, you practice how your name will sound with his at the end of it. You practice how it will look. You fill pages of your diary with lists of experimental, looping, cursive letters that end in his last name. You hold your breath, imagining the moment when a man will deem you worthy enough to give you his name. And you’ll be able to exhale, and your real life can begin. Least that’s what the movies tell you.
