Sorry I haven't written, I was launching my business
and planning an IRL event in Portland, Oregon (you're invited, too!) 🥂
I’m sorry I haven’t written to you or finished the world tour stories1 you’ve been graciously waiting for, I’ve been busy launching my business.
What is my business? you might be asking.
Dispatched Divorcée is a community for women who are defining, building, and on their way to thriving in the chapter of their lives after divorce. We take the shame out of divorce and put you back in the center of your life.
We believe:
In feeling our feelings, which might look like crying in the center of a Mexican restaurant without feeling ashamed.
We are all going through this at our own pace. There is no timeline, though we might desperately want one.
This is an opportunity to create the life we’ve always wanted—and it’s hard.
We are not alone, but sometimes, we might want or need to be alone.
That’s great, Laura — I can hear you saying — but I’m not divorced, am not planning to be divorced, so how is this relevant to me?
Great question. However, I bet that you know someone who is divorced or might become divorced in the future.
Honestly, that’s where you come in.
Divorcées aren’t googling “communities to help me get through my divorce.” No, if they’re anything like me, they’re googling, “how the hell do i get through this” or “when will it stop hurting” or “how long does it take to get though a divorce.”
Granted, your friend won’t be sharing their search history with you2. But you’ll know when they’re hurting, when they’re spinning, when they’re searching for a breath of air and someone to say they’ll be ok.
That’s where you come in. Here’s what you say to them:
“Hey friend, I know you’re hurting. I can’t take your pain away and I’m not sure how to help you, but maybe these folks do.”
And you send them the Dispatched Divorcée Welcome Kit through the mail or a link to the DD community. We’ll take care of your friend for you.
Community. It’s what I was looking for when I was going through my divorce. And now it exists.

Help a divorcée out

Hey, Portland, want to come to a party?
We’re throwing a party and you’re invited!
Join us at the Dispatched Divorcée launch event in real life at BOLD Coffee & Books in Portland, Oregon, USA on Tuesday, December 10th, 2024 (that’s next week!).
That’s right, friends, I’m going back to the city where my story began when I was a student at Portland State University dating a guy who lived in Seattle. After graduating from PSU’s book publishing program, I moved back to Seattle to get married instead of heading to New York to try and get a job with a publisher—you know what happened after.
If you’re a divorcée or a friend of a divorcée (which, hey, if you’re reading this, that friend is me!), you’re cordially invited to join us at this event. It’s free and we have a lot of fun things planned (I mean, I’m on the planning committee, what do you expect? 🙃)
I hope to see you there, especially if you’re in Portland or the greater Portland/ Vancouver, WA area.
Thank you for reading and for your continued support. We’ll get back to storytelling and sharing my diary with you soon. 🫶
I started them! I really did! But, like, um, wtf was I thinking? Launching a business + doing a big essay project…oh, and then spending half the month in bed with a frozen back because I wasn’t listening to my stressed-out body…hahaahahaha… yeah…. 😅
That’s what cookies are for.
Congratulations on your launch! Looks like a ton of great work went into developing this new site and ways of connecting. Also, the wallpaper. Excellent choice.
